Part 4: Why do the Stars Twinkle?

The Printer replied, I understand now. That was an awful thing to say. Queen Danielle came back with, that is not all. Queen Bella said if we wanted to keep royalty in the family, my girls would have to marry their boys. Oh dear, it grieves my heart to say those horrifying words even now. The Printer admonishes her; now, now, dear queen. I believe they will be more than happy to make atonement for their wrongness. Queen Danielle replied; I certainly hope so. For all of our sakes, I certainly hope so
Outside the Palace of King Pardus a horseman arrives with the invitation to the Ceremonial Blessings of Little Bar-jar. When Queen Bella read the good news regarding her dear friends Danielle and Leo, she could hardly contain herself. Bella cried out; we have received an invitation to the Royal Ceremonial Blessings of the son of King Leo and Queen Danielle. This could only mean one thing. What is that? King Pardus asked his wife. Why the King and Queen have forgiven us Darling. What else could it mean? At hearing this, King Pardus retorted; completely? That doesn’t sound like my old friend Leo. He was ready to draw blood when we left his palace two years ago. If you had not been there with me, I think perhaps he would have, what does he want from us? Only an apology responded Queen Bella, my love, only an apology.
That very night the King and Queen stayed up extremely late. They practiced their apology speeches and grand curtsy. They practiced as well their majestic bow they would each make before King Leo and Queen Danielle. Queen Bella summoned her dressmaker and told him to make the most perfect dress he could make. King Pardus said she must be more elegant than anyone there save Queen Danielle. And make my husband  the most elegant man there save King Leo. , Of course. together they said; our entrance must make a statement! King Pardus told the Queen; I will send my most trusted servant to our gold mind to find the purest chunk of gold for King Leo. And I… my love, will send my most trusted diamond cutter to find the most precious chunk of diamond to be cut to perfection by our diamond cutter. We are doing the right thing, aren’t we darling; questioned Bella. King Pardus answered; of course we are. King Leo and Queen Danielle are our friends. I knew this day would come when they would say all is forgiven! Come on back! How could there be any hostility at an event so blessed?
The day of the Ceremonial Blessings finally arrived. King Pardus and Queen Bella dressed in their finest arrived with gifts in hand ready to pay proper homage. Just before the arrival of the King and Queen, Queen Danielle sent for Baby Bar jar. King Pardus and Queen Bella’s arrival was announced by the royal announcer. King Leo did not know Queen Danielle had sent them an invitation. King Leo was so outraged at the royal couple for appearing uninvited; he had them immediately thrown out. The disappointment that the couple felt was beyond belief. Instead of the warm welcome they had counted upon, they were blatantly thrown out on their hills like old trash. They never had an opportunity to apologize. The King and Queen cried all the way home.
The next day, all along the Ivory Coast, everyone talked of the outlandish treatment King Leo and Queen Danielle had given their old friends. In the open marketplaces, there were muffled prattles and quiet snickers. From the people in the East, there were giggles and chortles. In the south, chuckles and titters and in the west there were smirks and gins in the mix. However, neither a sound nor a word  came from due north. When the couple tried to forget their troubles by going on a Safari, the animals seemed sorry for them. Poor Queen Bella cried herself sick. King Pardus sent for the village doctor. The doctor told the King and Queen to go about business as usual and they would experience happiness again.
