Pass It On

As I stood in line the day before Christmas, at one of the Subway Restaurants here in Birmingham, I struggled to find my money. I was totally embarrassed because my shopping etiquette, or lack of, held up the line. It was in the heart of the shopping extravagance and no one had the patience we all need at Christmas. A sweet lady standing behind whispered don’t worry, I will pay for you. I was totally happy.
At my in-laws Christmas dinner, I shared that story. One of my nieces said that is so sweet. She told me she had a life changing experience. A homeless man was standing on the street corner with a sign that read: I will work for food. A gentleman in front of her reached on his back seat and gave the man a box of crackers and a can of meat. Obviously, he had no money to give the stranger, but he gave him what he had. That is all we are asked to do. Share what you have. You don’t, nor should you, go into debt to show your love for anyone. Life is so precious. He came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. The true meaning of Christmas is to let the world see Christ in you. My niece said that gesture of kindness gave her an idea. She is going to carry a box of crackers and a can of meat in her car. Whenever she see someone with a sign saying they are hungry, she will have something to offer them.
If you are provoked by any little annoyance that might occur during the holiday season with your family, your friends, your neighbors, your co-workers or strangers; let it go. You will bring peace to yourself as well as peace on Earth and Goodwill to all men.
